SUSAN MAY ‘SUE’ FEENEY
Posted: June 3rd, 2026 SUSAN MAY ‘SUE’ FEENEY NOVEMBER 21, 1947 – MAY 26, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan May Feeney (nee Janssen), 78, of Medicine Hat, Alberta. She passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on May 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born November 21, 1947, in Plentywood, Montana to the late Louise and Bille Janssen. She was the second of four children; her mother a teacher and her father a county extension agent. Alongside her older sister, younger sister and brother, Sue enjoyed a happy childhood rooted in family, friendship and community. From an early age, she embraced the activities and passions that would stay with her throughout her life: sewing, 4-H, swimming and summers spent lifeguarding. After graduating from high school, Sue moved to Bozeman to attend Montana State University (Go Cats!), where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Home Economics. Her first teaching position brought her to Estevan, Saskatchewan where she began her life in Canada. The friendships formed in Estevan led Sue to Medicine Hat. While teaching physical education classes at the local swimming pool, she met a lifeguard named Bob; the man who would become her best friend, greatest supporter and lifelong partner. Sue and Bob were married in 1974, in Plentywood before returning to Medicine Hat to build a beautiful life together and welcome their daughter and only child, Dana. Sue dedicated much of her career to teaching at Medicine Hat High School, but for her, teaching was never simply a profession, it was a calling. During her teaching career and even in retirement, she continued sharing her talents by teaching stained glass, leading 4-H, instructing first aid and mentoring education students through the University of Lethbridge. Her passion for helping others learn never faded. Outside the classroom, Sue poured her creativity and care into countless hobbies and interests. She loved sewing and quilting, baking, gardening, hosting turkey dinners with Bob for his aunts and was an active member at All Saints Anglican Church. She was an enthusiastic sports fan who could happily watch almost any game, whether on television, from the stands, cheering on Bob in his running pursuits, or proudly supporting her grandchildren in their many sporting activities. Their shared love of sports took them to the Olympics, Toronto to watch the Blue Jays, Calgary to watch Wayne Gretzky (a favourite of Sue’s), Toronto again to see Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls (another favourite) and Belgium (to see her most favourite, Bob, compete in ultra running). Guaranteed, if there was a Canada versus USA anything, Bob would be wearing Team Canada and Sue, Team USA. More than anything, Sue’s greatest joy and deepest pride were found in her family. Her daughter, Dana; son-in-law, Rino and beloved grandchildren, Libby, Wynn and Marcus were at the centre of her world. She never arrived at their home or sporting events empty-handed, almost always bringing fresh baking to share and just as often leaving with a pile of clothes or gear the kids insisted “Grandma could fix.” Sue was also fortunate to share a wonderful love of travel with Bob. Together they explored overseas destinations, road-tripped throughout the United States visiting her family, a special trip to see Santana in Las Vegas and eventually became cherished annual snowbirds in Puerto Aventuras, a place they returned to for more than twenty years while continuing to discover other parts of Mexico and the U.S. In 2024, Sue and Bob experienced a trip of a lifetime to Europe, including the fulfillment of one of Sue’s longtime dreams visiting Portugal. She will be forever remembered by her devoted husband, Robert ‘Bob’ Feeney; loving daughter, Dana (Rino) Pasquotti and her grandchildren Libby, Wynn and Marcus Pasquotti who were the light of her life. She will also be greatly missed by her mother-in-law, Wanda Feeney; sisters, Sandy Feeney and Sally Janssen; brother and sisters-in-law, Wendy Willette, Mike (Della) Feeney alongside nieces and nephews; Michael, Brett, Aimee, Scott, Derek, Kara, Kaitlyn and Samantha; special family members, Candace and Scott and Henry; Aunts, Irene, Fran, Mary, Pat and Caroline; Great-Aunt Helen as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Louise (nee Hodson) and Bille Janssen; father-in-law, Robert Feeney and brother, Dale Janssen.
