ALLEN JAMES KOCH

ALLEN JAMES KOCH Allen James Koch of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Hospital on January 2, 2026, at the age of 73 years.
Allen James Koch, also known as “Cookie,” was a successful businessman in the oil and gas industry, where he made many friends and enjoyed sharing his experiences.
He avoided many Alberta winters by spending time in Mexico, walking miles every day, and making lasting friends.
Allen was a man of his word who always got things done. If something needed fixing, he would fix it…For anyone!
When a catastrophic accident changed his life completely, he remained patient, brave, and strong, like few others in such circumstances. He kept his sense of humor to the end.
Allen shared a very special and loving relationship with his mother-in-law, Carol.
He will be profoundly missed but knowing he is now free helps ease the grief.
Allen will be lovingly remembered by his spouse, Sheri Koch; his son, Tyler James of Victoria, BC; his daughter Shauneen Koch-Gerritsen (Brian); grandchildren Zaida Koch-Gerritsen and Roan Koch Gerritsen; sister, Loretta (Don) O’Bear of Medicine Hat; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Allen is predeceased by his parents, Magdalena and John J. Koch; sisters, Rose Lacher and Francis Martin; and brothers, Leo Koch and Jerry Koch.
A Celebration of Freedom will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Medicine Hat Exhibition Grounds (Fireside Room), 2055 21 Ave SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 1A5. We encourage you to share your memories and stories at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Central Alberta Humane Society, 4505 – 77 St., Red Deer, AB T4P 2J1.
