With great sadness her family share the news that Nellie (Nell ) Eleanor Roduik passed away on June 6, 2026 with loved ones by her side. Nell was Born 3rd of 6 children, in St. Paul, Alberta on May 7, 1933 to Metro & Freida Sherstan. She grew up on a farm close to Two Hills, AB where hard work, faith and family unity became deeply held values that served her well throughout her life.
Nell graduated from the Misericordia School of Nursing in Edmonton Alberta in 1960 and enjoyed a nursing career that spanned several provinces, medical disciplines, units and hospitals. As an RN, Nell was thought of as a professional, accomplished and compassionate nurse, who cared deeply for the well-being of her patients and colleagues alike. Nell retired from the nursing profession as a Nursing Supervisor of the Medicine Hat General Hospital in 1998. She loved being a nurse and reflected on her career and all those she worked alongside with joy.
Nell married Jack Roduik on August 19, 1961 and they began a life together. They lived for a short time in Winnipeg, MB, Edmonton, AB and finally they settled in Medicine Hat, AB. Jack and Nell both enjoyed and retired from professional careers and lived a life of purpose. Jack passed away in January 2007 and Nell remained in Medicine Hat until 2015 when she relocated to Calgary, AB to be closer to her daughter and her daughter’s family
Nell will be endlessly missed by her surviving family, daughter Lori Taylor (Tom) and 3 beloved grandchildren, Jackson, Mackenzie & Emma. She will also be missed by her sisters and their families Grace Erickson (Bob), Florence Daneliuk and her brother-in-law Garth Foley.
Nell was predeceased by her parents Metro and Freida Sherstan and her husband Jack Roduik. Her brother Bill Sherstan and his wife Olga Sherstan. Her Brother-in-law Andrew Daneliuk. Her Sister Jeanne Foley. Her Sister Mary Ann Plett and brother-in-law Jake Plett.
Nell will be remembered for having many cherished friends as she was very warm and loved to entertain. She loved to serve Sunday dinners and to participate in weekly “pop-in’s” at hers or the home of family friends. She will also be remembered as one who loved her garden. Summers, for Nell, were spent nurturing, harvesting and preserving food that she loved to share with anyone she could.
A memorial service is being planned for early Fall 2026 in Medicine Hat, AB.

Lori and families-A most beautiful, caring soul has gone to heaven.

You are in my thoughts.

I met Nurse Nell Roduik at the MH hospital one very sad night as I sat outside my father’s room. We had just received word that my Mother, Nora Anderson had passed away following the vehicle accident that my dad, mom and younger brother were involved in. (March 16th 1984) As I sat there in shock and total grief …. along came a nurse that I later referred to as an angel. She knew just what to say to a hurting young mom ….. daughter of Nora. I can still cry thinking of that special moment. I don’t know if I ever got to thank her for how sweetly and gently she ministered to me. So sorry to hear of her passing but so thankful for her life and the way she helped and cared for people. My condolences to you her family as you now grieve. I loved reading the obituary of how she was so competent and caring. Blessings and peace to you all.
Auntie Nell. There are so many memories I could share. I always remember her being there for me during those years when Mom was taken. She always said I was “Nell’s son” So many memories of her smile, big hugs and a soft and gentle heart. Yet I always knew there was a fierce and protective side to her as well. We were walking to Baba and Giddo’s house once when I was little and a kid said something to her. I will always remember watching her let this young tough guy that she wasn’t having any of it. I can remember hearing by the end this not so tough guy saying “yes Mamm yes Mamm” as he was apologizing to her over and over. That was my Auntie. My daughter said it best the other day, ” I can just see her with all her siblings in heaven and how they are laughing and having a great time” We will miss all miss you. We love you.
