1958 – LARRY NIKOLEYCHUK – 2026
With heavy hearts, we wish to announce the passing of Lawrence Victor Nikoleychuk while at the Cypress Regional Hospital on Friday, August 21, 2026. Larry was born June 8, 1958, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He grew up in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan where he followed in his father’s footsteps, working for CP Rail on the bridge gangs, as a track maintainer, a welder and at other various other positions throughout his 37 years of his service before retiring in 2013. Larry was passionate about the outdoors. Camping was a family ritual and many of his weekends were spent at the Cypress Hills. He was an avid fisherman and loved fly fishing. He spent many years hunting, shooting, and soon fell in love with archery where he found a warm community and dear friends. He leaves to cherish his beloved wife, Donna Nikoleychuk, whom he married September 6, 1980, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He also leaves behind his daughter, Angie Nikoleychuk, and son, Steven Nikoleychuk (Kayleigh Bolds). He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Eric Davis Jr., Corey Nikoleychuk, Anthony Nikoleychuk, and Addison Bolds. Larry was predeceased by his father, Victor Nikoleychuk, on June 2, 2003, and his dear mother, Elsie Nikoleychuk, on August 17, 2000. The family would like to thank the staff at the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility, Cypress Regional Hospital, especially those on the second med surg west, Dr. Dang, Dr. Stenkamp, Dr. Goveander, Dr. Tijani, and the EMTs and administration who assisted with Larry. We’d also like to give a special thank you to Peter Koch. Larry will be laid to rest at the Maple Creek Cemetery in a private Graveside Service with Pastor Shane Hein officiating. There will be a tea at the Maple Creek Legion Hall Friday, August 28, 2026, at 2:00 pm and all those who knew him are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the SPCA or Medicine Hat Archery Association’s Youth Program via E-Transfer medhatarcheryclub@gmail.com, which sponsors children who would like to learn to shoot or compete in archery competitions, an initiative near and dear to his heart.
