KEITHA JOAN BUFFUM 1944-2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our mom, grandma and great grandma Keitha “Joan” Buffum (nee Evans), who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the age of 82 years following a brief illness.
Joan was born and raised in Cabri, SK. As a young girl, she was actively involved with CGIT and sang in the choir at the Church. She was also a majorette and enjoyed travelling with the band. After completing her studies at Business College in Regina, SK, she relocated to Medicine Hat where she had an interest in hairdressing and attended hairdressing school later opening her own shop.
Other pursuits eventually called, and she went on to work in a few retail positions before joining the automotive industry where she worked for many years, later retiring from Murray Chev Olds. Mom was known for her friendly outgoing personality, and she always looked forward to connecting with her customers.
Joan also enjoyed many hockey tournaments with the Oldtimers hockey team which included trading and collecting pins with the other wives. Trips to Hawaii and Jasper with family were also amongst her favourite adventures.
In Mom’s spare time, she was a huge supporter of her children and grandchildren’s events and sports. She also enjoyed going for lunch with friends, playing a good game of cards, golfing, chair fit classes, crocheting, watching curling, doing puzzles, find a words, reading, and volunteering at the YMCA, the Hospital, and Cypress View Foundation.
Mom will be missed by her family, Kim (Stacey) Fishley, Travis (Jennifer) Buffum; grandchildren, Lauren (Kaiden)Vancuren, Morgan (Satinder) Singh, Davis Fishley (Miranda Morrison), Seleena Johnston and great granddaughter, Remi Vancuren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Keith and Winnifred Evans, sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Charlie Resch, and ex- husband, Howard Buffum.
Mom was an amazing mother, grandmother and mentor, who taught us about courage, strength, perseverance, resilience, determination, work ethic, and strong old-fashioned values.
We will sincerely miss Mom’s amazing sense of humour, her endless love, advice, words of encouragement and support, her smile, her laugh and her presence. She will be forever loved and treasured in our hearts, and we will hold on to many beautiful memories. A private graveside service will be held in the Hillside Cemetery.
