STANLEY TRIBE 1937 ~ 2026
Stanley Thomas Tribe of Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the age of 88 years.
Stanley was born on October 15, 1937, at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, to John and Ruth Tribe. His father, John, passed away when Stanley was just three years old, and his mother, Ruth, later married Ralph Thomson. Stanley grew up on the family farm with his siblings, Heather and Barry, and attended school in Cremona, Alberta. He experienced the final years of stooking and threshing grain before combines and more modern farming equipment became commonplace. Throughout his life, Stanley held many jobs, including farming, working in the logging and bush industry and eventually driving truck in the oilfield industry. His trucking career allowed him to travel throughout northern Alberta and British Columbia. He was especially proud to have worked on the Alaska Highway and the highways in Jasper. In his later years, he worked as a security guard. Stanley lived in several communities, including Olds and Innisfail, before retiring, first to Foremost and Bow Valley, and later moving to Medicine Hat. He spent the last eight years at Maranatha Villa, where he made many friends. Although he often complained about the summer heat and winter cold, Medicine Hat eventually became his home. In recent years, Stanley experienced mobility challenges and had been awaiting placement in an assisted living facility shortly before his passing. Stan loved music and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. He also taught himself to play the electric organ. He had many friends on Facebook, which helped him stay connected and keep up with current affairs. In 1992, while living in Innisfail, Alberta, he was a fraternal affiliate member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was also a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Medicine Hat, where he loved singing hymns and enjoyed the fellowship of his church community. Stanley never married, but he was surrounded by family and many lifelong friends. Stanley was predeceased by his parents, John Tribe and Ruth Thomson; his stepfather, Ralph Thomson; his sister, Heather Norgaard; and his brother-in-law, Rudolph Norgaard. He is survived by his brother, Barry Thomson (Mary); his nieces and nephews, Robert Norgaard, Duane (Liliana) Norgaard, Tim (Jennifer) Norgaard, Angela (Michael) Henders and Ben Thomson as well as their families and many lifelong friends.
Stanley’s cremated remains will be interred at Big Prairie Cemetery, where his mother and other family members are buried. A private service will be held at a later date. Those who wish to remember Stanley with a donation, may do so to the AJ’s Loan Cupboard in Medicine Hat or to a charity of your choice. Cremation has been entrusted to the Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
