JAMES “JIM” SCOTT LINES

JAMES “JIM” SCOTT LINES March 13th, 1952 – October 2nd, 2026 James (Jim) Scott Lines came into this world on March 13, 1952, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. That same year, in the spring, a self-planted tree began to grow on the south quarter of the Lines homestead, a piece of land that decades later became owned by Jim. The tree grew as Jim did, strong and solid. Roots deep into the land.
Jim was the fourth in a family of eight children, three boys and five girls in a family of talkers and singers, he was the quiet one with a sharp sense of humour.
He left the farm early, moving away at only 15 years of age. After trying his hand at several different jobs, he eventually found his calling laying brick.
In 1973, Jim and two partners founded Cactus Masonry, a venture built on skill, dedication, and a shared commitment to quality. In 1977, Cactus Masonry incorporated with Luksa Masonry. For the next three decades, Jim worked alongside his best friends and business partners, Garry Harcourt and Rod Congdon, building homes and institutions across Southern Alberta and beyond. After 32 years in masonry, Jim retired in 2005 and worked in the oil patch for several more years.
It was their shared love of playing ball that first brought Jim and Carol together. They were married on December 14, 1976, and shared nearly fifty years together a testament to their unwavering commitment and love.
A highlight of Jim’s life was time spent at countless hockey rinks and baseball diamonds across Western Canada. Road trips with Carol to watch Brendan play became a fixture of their life, and they rarely missed a game even when Brendan’s home games meant a four-hour drive, one way.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Jean Lines; his brother, Carson and sister, Isabelle. He was also predeceased by Carol’s parents, Edwin and Amanda Paulson; her sisters, Audrey and Janice and brother, Howard.
Jim will be sorely missed by his wife, Carol; son, Brendan (Kristyn) and granddaughters, Callie and Romy. He also leaves behind his siblings, Bonnie, Katie, Lexie, Boyd and Barbie; his brother-in-law, Russ (Lynne) and a host of nieces, nephews and life-long friends.
A come-and-go Celebration of Life will be held at Redcliff Riverview Golf Course (700 Redcliff Way SE) on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in Jim’s memory. Condolences may be made at www.gracememorial.com. Arrangements are made by
