ADAM MASTEL 1935 ~ 2026
Born near Liebenthal, Saskatchewan, on December 18, 1935, Adam Mastel passed away at The Good Samaritan South Ridge Village on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the age of 90 years, with his loving and loved wife of 66 years, Terry, by his side. A kind, intelligent, and gentle soul, Adam was surrounded by the love of his family until his last breath. He will be celebrated, mourned, and deeply missed. Adam was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Dana, in 2025. He is survived by his loving wife, Terry; daughter, Tracy; son, Douglas (Tracy Semrau); and son-in-law, Glenn Tole; grandchildren, Matthew (Shelby), Mitchell (Jules), Ryan, Nolan (Desiree), Alison (Dustin), William, Madison, and Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Theodore, Grayson, Remington, Lincoln, Vera, Bridgette, and Chester. The son of Albert Sr. and Katie (Schell) Mastel, Adam was predeceased by his siblings, Albert, John, Adolph, Peter, Pauline, and Mary. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen (Peter Hammel), as well as his and Terry’s extended families. For Adam, family was everything. Adam graduated from Garbutt’s Business College and Medicine Hat College, earning his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation in both Alberta and Saskatchewan. He worked as an accountant in various roles before establishing the private partnership Gordon and Mastel in 1980. He retired from the partnership in 1995, giving him and Terry the opportunity to travel. Whether it was a car ride through the Maritimes, a bus trip to San Francisco, a cruise through the Panama Canal, or a flight to Australia, Adam loved it all. Adam showed a natural talent for music from a very young age, taking on the role of parish organist at just 12 years old. He continued to play the organ at St. Patrick’s Church and for family weddings. He also played the accordion in a country-western band and at family gatherings, and was still sharing his musical talents with fellow care home residents at the age of 90. Blessed with a beautiful tenor voice, Adam sang with a 50-voice men’s choir, The Orpheus Singers, as well as in the church choir. Adam was an avid sportsman who enjoyed curling, bowling, and golfing regularly for as long as he was able. He also loved hockey, coaching Doug and Dana when they were young and faithfully supporting the local Medicine Hat Tigers. Adam held season tickets for 43 years and continued listening to the games on the radio when he could no longer attend in person. Adam and Terry proudly made Medicine Hat their home from the time they were married in 1960. Over the years, they formed many lasting friendships and actively participated in school, community, and church events. Adam was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for 45 years, serving two terms as Grand Knight. Adam’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many wonderful people who cared for him, particularly Dr. Prince, Dr. Ciubotaru, Dr. Chaudhary, and the staff of The Good Samaritan. Those wishing to honour Adam’s memory may make a donation to the Diabetes Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, or Brain Injury Canada. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., with Fr. Paolo Cervantes officiating. Cremation has been entrusted to Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium. A private family interment will take place in the HILLSIDE CEMETERY.
