MARLENE BOHNET 1953 ~ 2026

Marlene Elizabeth (Satzke) Bohnet (nee Schmaltz), beloved wife of Kim Bohnet of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the age of 73 years.  She also leaves to cherish her memory, her two children, Tammy (Darryl) Ross and Brent Satzke and her stepdaughter, Lana Richardson; her five grandchildren, Brandyn, Dustyn (Brooke) and Kaitlyn Ross (Ariane Domingue), Harlyn and Rier Richardson; her three great grandchildren, Blake, Callie and Ellie Ross; her four brothers, Archie Schmaltz, Ivan Schmaltz (Monica Hazzard), Marvin (Gail) Schmaltz and Peter Schmaltz (Mark Richards); her two sisters-in-law, Ingrid Augustine and Rosemary (Sheldon) Ellik; her brother-in-law, Troy (Jennifer Fawkes) Bohnet, as well and numerous nieces and nephews.  Marlene was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Magdalena Schmaltz; her first husband, Harry Satzke; her stepson, Curtis Bohnet; her three brothers-in-law, Elli Bohnet, Ivan Bohnet and Siegfried Augustine, and her two sisters-in-law, Shirley Schmaltz and Launie Schmaltz.   Marlene was born in 1953, in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan.  In 1961, when Marlene was eight years old, the Schmaltz family moved to Redcliff.  At the age of 13, Marlene fell in love with Harry Satzke, the first love of her life.  On February 2, 1972, they welcomed their first child, Tammy, into the world.  Marlene and Harry were married on November 10, 1973, and on August 7, 1979, their son, Brent, was born.  Marlene and Harry took up curling, through which they made many lasting friendships.  Sadly, Harry passed away suddenly in 1988.  At the age of 16, Marlene began working at the Redcliff Glass Factory, where she remained for 20 years until its closure in 1989.  She then worked at Redcliff Stake and Lath until the early 1990s, when she started her own cleaning business, “Got It Maid.”  In the years following Harry’s passing, Marlene developed an interest in line dancing, where she once again made many wonderful friends.  It was through her love of dancing that she met the second love of her life, Kim Bohnet.  Marlene and Kim were married on October 22, 1994. With Kim, Marlene found a new rhythm through Night Magic Music, where she could often be found helping with dance setups and tear-downs, taking requests, and simply enjoying the time they spent together.  In 1996, Marlene was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  Despite her diagnosis, she and Kim continued dancing up a storm every weekend and at every Night Magic Music function.  After watching Kim play pool, Marlene decided to take up the pastime herself and soon became an avid pool player.  Music, dancing, and pool became an important part of their lives, bringing them much happiness and many cherished friendships.  In March 2026, Marlene was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer.  She faced this diagnosis just as she had faced every other hardship in her life, with grit, courage, and determination. She was determined to fight the disease or, at the very least, make the most of every precious day she had left.  And that is exactly what she did.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought a constant sparkle to Marlene’s eyes and immeasurable joy to her heart.  She found contentment in the simple act of gathering with those she loved.  Whether surrounded by family or friends, Marlene understood that being present with the people who mattered most was one of life’s greatest gifts.  You will live forever in our hearts, and your legacy will continue through the cherished memories we each hold of you.  The Celebration of Life will take place in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., with Life Celebrant, David Townsend officiating.  The Funeral Mass will take place in the ST. PATRICK’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with Fr. Paolo Cervantes as celebrant. Interment will follow in the REDCLIFF CEMETERY.  Those who wish to pay their respects may do so one hour prior to both the Celebration of Life and the Funeral Mass.  Both services will be live streamed.
