PIUS DENIS November 17th, 1934 October 19th, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce that Pius Denis passed away, surrounded by family in Medicine Hat on October 19th, 2026.
Pius, the 12th child of Conrad and Lottie Denis, was born November 17th, 1934, in Beiseker, AB and was raised in Fox Valley, SK.
He went on to pursue his post-secondary education, receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Saskatchewan followed by a master’s degree from the University of Alberta, as well as work on a doctorate degree in Ottawa. Upon completion of his university studies, he received a position at the University of Regina where he taught until his retirement.
While studying in Saskatoon, dad met Eileen Adamko and they were married in 1962. Together they had five children and eventually settled in Regina in 1968 where they raised their family.
Following his retirement, Pius moved to Medicine Hat where he met Doreen McLeod, whom he married in 1996. They shared a life in Medicine Hat until her passing August 13th, 2026.
Pius was passionate about hockey and established an old-timer’s hockey team, the Slow Shots, as well as a hockey school, North Regina Hockey Camp, for aspiring young athletes. He continued to play into his 70’s and enjoyed the sport until the end.
He loved fishing and there are many fond memories of fishing trips with dad. Pius enjoyed travelling and was fortunate to have ventured to many countries around the world including the Middle East and Europe. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and was quite the avid bridge champion.
Pius was predeceased by his parents, Conrad Denis in 1973 and Lottie Denis in 1986; his beloved daughter, Chrisanthia and beloved wife, Doreen in 2026; his 11 siblings, Mary (John), Jack (Frances), Walter, Peter (Kay), Tom (Pauline), Frances (Jack), Margaret (Wendel), Eva (Leo), Gabrial, Joe, Betty (Gene).
Pius leaves 4 children to cherish his memory: Ange, Bonnie (Blair), Francine (Adrian), Gary; 5 grandchildren, Sara, Elisa, Nicole, Bailey and Gary Jr., and 1 great granddaughter, Sophia.
We send our deepest gratitude to all the kind staff, nurses and doctors at Sunnyside Care Home and Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for all their assistance, care and support given to Pius. Our family is forever grateful.
The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 27th, 2026, at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fox Valley, SK. Interment to follow at Fox Valley Cemetery.
