NUNHAM GLENN STANFORD, Jr. of Stirling, AB, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 53 years, Katherine Harker Stanford, and his six children: Curtis (Kara) Stanford of Didsbury, Gordon (Naomi) Stanford of Lacombe, Robert Stanford of Lethbridge, Sheri (John) Evans of Magrath, Christopher (Rochelle) Stanford of Lethbridge, and Kendrick (Diane) Stanford of Calgary. He is also survived by his siblings: Gary Stanford of Salt Lake City, Walter Stanford of Calgary, and Marianne Flanagan of Calgary. He is predeceased by his brother, Leland Stanford of Spring Coulee and his grandson, Andrew Stanford. Family was important to Nunham, and he leaves behind a proud progeny of 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter whom he adored. He was an avid family historian and the influence from his dedication and countless hours of genealogical work will be appreciated and felt by many generations for years to come. Nunham was a school teacher for 35 years. He loved teaching so much, he often taught summer school and evening classes. He also continued to tutor children long after his retirement. In his later years, Nunham made it a practice to check the obituaries first thing every day only to exclaim to Katherine, “Well, I’m not in them again today, Mother.” You’re in them today, Dad. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, STIRLING CHAPEL. Friends may meet the family prior to the service from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Interment to follow in the Stirling Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Box 2211, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4K7.

  2. Mal Clewes says:

I was sad to hear of Nuntham’s passing. I had the good fortune of working with Nuntham at Winston Churchill High School where I was a rookie teacher and he was a vice principal. He provided me with encouragement and was always very supportive. Nuntham was a fine teacher who was respected by students and colleagues alike. He will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Stanford family in their loss.

  3. Greg says:

I was a student in the early 90’s at WCHS, probably in his later years of teaching. He taught the most bizarre subjects, from Typing class (they still had that in the 90s), to Accounting. Multi-talented. I remember his “Accounting Gloves”, the left glove had “DR” written on it (for Debit), and the right glove “CR” for credit. It was so you would remember debits are on the left and credits on the right.

I was doing my corporate taxes last night, and I still use that as a reminder. This is 25 years later I still think of that and it helps me balance my books and get the DR and CR right. ACCOUNTING GLOVES! I don’t think we appreciated the practical lessons and foresight in something so simple. Thank you.
