October 29th, 1935 – September 10th, 2015
EDWARD REAL GILCHRIST, beloved husband of Olive Gilchrist, of Lethbridge, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015.
Ed leaves behind his loving wife Olive Gilchrist, his three children Laverne (Michael) Bryant, Kim (Robert) Laing, Lance (Sue) Gilchrist; his grandchildren Chad Laing, Tim Laing, Rodd Laing, Megan Johnson, Nathan Gilchrist, Shaun Gilchrist, Jayce Bryant, Kevan Bryant; his seven great-grandchildren, his sister Bev (Floyd) Anderson, and brother-in-laws Demoine Dunk, Lloyd (Arlene) Dunk. He was predeceased by his parents, Nople and Ray Gilchrist, and in-laws Florence and Everett Dunk.
Ed’s desire to serve and his spirit of community led him to be involved with many organizations. Dad was a proud member of the Lethbridge Fire Department for 35 years and remained active through the Firefighter Retiree group, was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lethbridge Rock Club, Sons of Norway, SATRA and River of Life Church. Ed retired in 1992, and along with Olive spent many years building memories with their family, enjoying a variety of outdoor pursuits, farming and travel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at RIVER OF LIFE COMMUNITY CHURCH, 2820 – 18 Avenue North, Lethbridge on Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 at 5:30 P.M.
It is our family’s request instead of flowers donation be made to the Lethbridge Fire Fighter’s Charity Association, #6, 3160 – 12 Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB., T1H 5Z1 or charity of your choice.
Dear Family,
I was sad news to hear about the passing of Ed. I remember him as a pleasant and
interesting man with a love and appreciation for the outdoors. I pictured him as a man that took a sincere interest in his family and community. I only recall meeting one of Ed’s children, Lance, at a hunting camp at Cecil Nesmo’s. May the legacy of love your father and grandfather left with you help to carry you all at this time and the days to come.
