August 20, 1945 ~ December 17, 2017

John Leslie “Les” Eagles passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice. Husband to Lesley for almost 44 years; father to Kerry and DJ; amazing grandad to Jamie, Jodi, Tianna and Bryton and to the star of the family just now, great-granddaughter, Zaphyara. Les also leaves his family in the UK; daughters, Aileen and Tina; son, Roger; grandchildren, A.J., Jordan and Josh; great-grandson, Cody; brother, Alan (Joan) who when in the UK shared many a good time; younger brother, Rich; sisters, Mary and Fran and brother, Cliff (Linda) who have passed and will be telling jokes with Les by now. Jodi has said that Grandad’s personality allowed him to make many friends over his life time. He was known for his catch phrase, “Let the force be with you”. As always, the support from relatives and friends has helped the family get through this really hard time; son-in-law, Simon (who went from an ‘untouchable’ to “Okay, give us a hug Les”) has been a rock. Les loved life and was never happier then when he was with family and friends telling his tales and jokes. The annual camp-out with friends, Pat, Sam, Sue and Ray… we remember the good times and Port all around. To Bill and Kelly, Les loved you both. From Les to everyone he knew, “Live long and prosper.” Les’ life will be silently remembered by family and friends. You will be missed so much Les. You had such a way of telling stories and tales ☺ you could engage anyone in conversation and adapt to any situation and usually turn it into something really funny, any time spent with you always ended with fits of giggles. The kids were shy with you as we didn’t see you as much as we would have liked but you soon got down on the floor and created a game and had them eating out of your hands. I will always remember you wearing your rucksack the wrong way round so you could litter pick through bradgate park ?. So many wonderful memories, my chalkboard still has cheers from Canada written by you on so for now Les cheers from England ? xx Jackie and family xx

Oh where do I start? Les you were a bright light in often dark times…forever the optimist. You always included myself and my son in whatever festivities were happening…we always felt included and we were so very grateful for that. You always had a compliment ready to make someones day! Forever a gentlemen. A strong character you were, I looked up to you and your “straight shooter” attitude. We had many a good chats over a few rum and cokes…I’ll not forget your wisdom and fatherly advice you shared with me. And I certainly will never ever forget you..we all miss you so very much Les…sleep peacefully…love you xoxo

  16. SUE AND RAY says:

To quote “Billy Fury” A 1000 stars in the sky. There is another one shining so much brighter now, another “Eagle” soaring above us , our best freind Les. So many good times with this lovely man. We will miss you Les. The stories, the songs and the camp outs. You are probably “rocking it” up above. You will be forever in our hearts. A true friend gone but will never be forgotten. RIP

  17. Sam and Pat says:

Les it was a pleasure for us to call you our friend. You will be sorely missed, your jokes, your antics and your persuasive arguments by all who knew you. We are sure to meet again. We would like to think we will be sitting on a fluffy white cloud eating cream cheese and crackers, but thinking we will be eating toasted marshmallows and drinking extremely hot rum toddies. Miss you Bud
